“Breathe” Exhibition Submission, Jury and Curatorial Process
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
In order to be considered into either the Canadian or US exhibitions, artists must provide the following:
1. One to three (ONLY 1-3) clear images of your mask (maximum 2 MBs each)
2. An artist statement or the story about your mask in the body of your email.
3. Please include contact information, including address/country of residence in the body of your email.
4. You MUST be an accepted member of the Breathe Group community.
5. CANADIAN ARTISTS: Please EMAIL your completed submission to “[email protected]” by June 30, 2020. US Artists deadline has been extended due to severity of the pandemic in that country.
TIMELINES AND JURY PROCESS
June 30, 2020
All masks FROM CANADIAN ARTISTS must be submitted per the above guidelines by no later than June 30, 2020*. The deadline for US artists has been extended due to the severity of the pandemic in that country.
*Some accommodation may be made for those artists whose process takes longer (ie: pottery, clay, glass makers). In this case, the artist must show that their mask has been in progress prior to the deadline date of June 30, 2020. It is important that progress photos be uploaded to the “Masks In Progress” album. However, masks must MUST be completed and photos submitted by no later than August 1, 2020.
July 1 to 30, 2020
Preliminary jury will take place. At this time, Lisa and Nathalie will be organizing all masks and associated artist statements into two categories: Canada and US.
Virtual slide shows will also be prepared for the jury process with teams of gallery staff.
Lisa and Nathalie will meet with members of the gallery staff for the purpose of selecting masks for the exhibitions.
August 1 – August 15, 2020
Selected artists will be contacted by Nathalie or Lisa with next steps (ie: contracts, shipping, etc.)
August 16 – September 15, 2020
Selected artists will ship their masks to Nathalie Bertin so that they can be catalogued and photographed.
September 16
Masks will be shipped to the first first CANADIAN exhibition.
October 2020 – February 2021
Canadian Exhibition:

April to August 2021
Canadian Exhibition:
Martin Luther University College, Kanata Centre Gallery.
Waterloo, Ontario

SPECIAL NOTE: Your mask MUST be available for exhibition to qualify. Please do not submit if you have already sold or plan to sell your mask prior to exhibition. Thank you.
