Francesca Carella Arfinego: Taking and giving back, natural dyeing on stolen land

While deepening my understanding of natural dyeing techniques and playing with different dye materials and colourways, questions about reciprocity and settler responsibilities arise. Speaking from my perspective as a latinx first generation settler, I invite you to join in conversation about foraging, gifts, Land Back calls of action, appropriation in craft practices and living in relationship with the peoples who have protected and passed down the knowledge of natural dyeing.

November 26th | 7:30pm on Youtube Live

melannie monoceros: Whispers in the Weft

Informed by an intentionally multi- and inter-disciplinary artistic practice, melannie monoceros will stitch parallels between the work of weaving and that of memoir writing. Approaches to narrative, can, as melannie will share, be influenced by the choreography of weaving: the let off, the take up, the chain, the choke, the cross. Offering insight into their exploration of grief and the body, melannie will bring together practices of mending, (re)collecting and creating to consider the lessons wrought through  the kinship of text/iles.

Please join them for a virtual artist talk followed by a Q&A at 7:30pm CST Thursday November 26th.

This artist talk series is in association with Mentoring Artists for Women’s Art (MAWA) and the Manitoba Fibre Festival.
