Programme and Outreach Assistant

Term: July 5-August 26, 2022

Hours:  30 hrs/week for 8 weeks (some Saturday shifts and evenings required)

Hourly wage: $14.35

The Manitoba Craft Council (MCC) is about craft: its makers and materials. We’re a member-centered, non-profit dedicated to promoting and supporting contemporary craft in Manitoba. Located in the C2 Centre for Craft in Winnipeg’s Historic Exchange District, MCC presents exhibitions, artist talks, workshops, sales, and events related to contemporary craft. We also have a shop (physical and online) featuring work by over 50 Manitoba-based craft artists.

You are a communications-focused, post-secondary student with a passion for craft, art, and/or culture. You are keen to use your skills and training to support this province’s amazing craftspeople and the work they do. You are a creative and effective written communicator who is collaborative and self-motivated. You’re ambitious and excited to gain valuable, hands-on programming and outreach experience within a thriving arts organization. One-on-one training and mentoring through job shadowing will help you grow your skills and get the support you need.

This position will support MCC’s Growing Craft project which is intended to increase community awareness of contemporary craft and the Manitoba Craft Council as a resource to support, promote and advocate for craftspeople at all stages of their careers. Through creative collaboration and outreach efforts, MCC seeks to diversify and strengthen its membership, connect with new audiences and deliver on its provincial mandate.

 

Responsibilities will include: 

-development, implementation, and promotion of MCC’s youth Maker Challenge workshops series

-assist in the implementation of an online exhibition of work by craft artists who are students

-assistance with programme planning and exhibition preparation for Eco-Craft, an exhibition project featuring collaborations by 11 craft artist and environmental scientist teams

-follow-up with lapsed and prospective members

-coordinating/scheduling MCC presentations to student groups and others

-development of a MCC’s Google Arts and Culture site using materials from exhibition archives

-engaging C2 shop and gallery visitors

-assisting at C2 Centre for Craft and MCC events

-social media and website content development

-administrative duties including answering phone calls and email, updating databases, processing invoices, preparing correspondence and providing support to the Director and other staff

-light housekeeping and janitorial duties

-other duties as assigned

 

Eligibility:

Applicants must be between the ages of 18-30 years old

-Applicants must be a permanent Canadian resident, citizen, or refugee.

Applicants must be registered as full-time students in the previous academic year and intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year.
