CALL FOR APPLICANTS: Programme and Communications Intern

 

Term: September 2022 – March 2023 (approx)

Hours: 12-16 hours per week

Hourly wage: $15/hr

The Manitoba Craft Council (MCC) is about craft: its makers and materials. We’re a member-centered, non-profit dedicated to promoting and supporting contemporary craft in Manitoba. Located in the C2 Centre for Craft in Winnipeg’s Historic Exchange District, MCC presents exhibitions, artist talks, workshops, sales, and events related to contemporary craft. We also have a shop (physical and online) featuring work by over 70 Manitoba-based craft artists.

You are a programming and communications-focused post-secondary student with a passion for craft, art, and/or culture. You are keen to use your skills and training to support this province’s amazing craft community. You are a creative and design aware communicator who is collaborative and self-motivated. You love working with people and planning events that engage a diverse community. You love big ideas and embrace the drudgery needed to see them through. You’re ambitious, independent, and excited to gain valuable, hands-on programming and outreach experience within a thriving arts organization. One-on-one training and mentoring through job shadowing will help you grow your skills and get the support you need.

 

Responsibilities will include: 

-programme planning and delivery including hands-on workshops, artist talks and panels, Crafted Sale at the WAG, IKEA-MCC holiday market, member exhibition, shop sales, and more

-visitor engagement

-social media and website content development

-administrative tasks

-light housekeeping and janitorial duties 

-other duties as assigned

 

Eligibility

Applicant must be:
-a post-secondary student enrolled in a recognized Canadian PSE institution (university, college, CEGEP, polytechnic), part or full-time (no age related requirement)
a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or a person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act
-legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with provincial/territorial legislation and regulations

Priority will be given to hiring students from under-represented groups including Indigenous, BPOC, newcomers, persons with disabilities, and first-year students. If you wish to self-identify as being part of one of these groups, please do so in your cover letter.
