CraftED: Advanced Throwing with Toluwalope Toludare

 

Workshop Description:

This workshop is intended to build on participants existing wheel throwing skills through a dedicated time of demonstration and guidance. Participants will be tasked to scale up during the course of this workshop, by setting up a desired target with the instructor in order to build confidence on the wheel going forward.

Techniques that will be covered during this workshop include:

  • Centering a larger amount of clay
  • Scaling up by coiling and throwing
  • Scaling up through 2 sectional throwing
  • Using clay more effectively by throwing thinner

Participants will pick up their piece made during this workshop from The Edge Gallery once they are bisque fired.

Experience throwing on the wheel is required for this workshop.

About the Instructor:

Toluwalope Toludare is a Nigerian ceramist who received his doctorate in ceramics studio research from the Federal University of Technology Akure, Ondo State, Nigeria. He has been teaching and practicing ceramics since 2011. His interest in ceramics is broad, ranging from traditional to technical ceramics. He loves solving mysteries and finding creative solutions within the ceramics field. He has also mastered advanced throwing with an interest in making large forms on the potter’s wheel, a skill set he eagerly shares with his students. Dr. Toluwalope is currently a resident artist at The Edge Gallery in Winnipeg.
