CraftED: Lost Wax Casting Bronze Pendants with Anastasia Pindera

CraftED: Lost Wax Casting Pendants with Anastasia Pindera

Workshop Description:

In this workshop, participants will learn the basics of lost wax casting including wax carving, casting, and metal finishing methods. These skills will be applied to the creation of a bronze pendant which will be attached to a chain to create a piece of jewellery.

This workshop takes place over  two sessions. In the first session, participants will carve their pendant which will then be taken to be cast in metal. In the second session, the focus will be on sanding and polishing the metal pendant, attaching a jump ring and chain.

About the Instructor:

Anastasia Pindera is an interdisciplinary visual artist who creates work from her studio in Winnipeg, Canada on Treaty No. 1 territory. She obtained her Bachelor of Fine Art at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, where she focused on jewellery design and metalsmithing.

Pindera creates contemporary jewellery and wearable sculpture installations to explore how social power, particularly patriarchy and capitalism, manifests in the body and influences how we present and feel about ourselves. The body is the main subject in her metalwork, which explores gender, sexuality and Western beauty ideals. She intentionally invites a sense of discomfort into her practice to challenge expected norms surrounding adornment and the body. Pindera is the recipient of several arts awards and has exhibited work internationally.
