From Fibre to Fabric: A Community Weaving Workshop with Maryam Bagheri
Workshop Description:
This two-part community workshop invites participants to explore the complete process of creating a woven piece—from preparing fibres to completing a finished textile—through a fully interactive, hands-on approach. The program fosters connection, skill-sharing, and creativity by encouraging active participation at every stage.
In Part 1, participants will work directly with natural fibres, experimenting with accessible dyeing techniques to produce vibrant, personalized colours. They will also construct a simple wooden loom under the instructor’s guidance, ensuring that each participant leaves with a functional tool for future projects.
In Part 2, participants will learn how to warp their looms, experiment with patterns and textures, and weave a small piece to take home. The process is highly collaborative. Participants will share ideas, techniques, and inspiration, creating an environment where learning happens both from the facilitator and from one another. By combining traditional craft skills with interactive, community-centred learning, this project offers a welcoming space for people of all skill levels to learn, create, and connect. .
