Are you passionate about textiles and old machinery? Do you want to spend a month in a stunning Icelandic village by the sea – working hands-on with rare historical knitting machines?
The Icelandic Textile Center invites one dedicated volunteer to join us for this 1 month to focus on restoring and experimenting with our manual knitting machines, both rare antique models from the 1960s and 1970s.
What You’ll Do:
- Clean, repair and test our knitting machines
- Help bring them back to working condition
- Explore and experiment with their knitting potential
- Document or share findings (optional, but welcomed!)
Who We’re Looking For:
- Someone with knowledge in knitting, machine knitting, and textile machinery
- Someone curious, hands-on, and excited about textile heritage
- A student, artist, craftsperson, or enthusiast – all backgrounds welcome!

- Location: The Textile Center, Blönduós, North-West Iceland

We are currently accepting applications for the next volunteership period which is between January and May 2026.
The application deadline is on Monday, 15th of December 2025. When applying, please let us know your preferred month.
