About the Instructor:
Karen Schmidt Humiski (she/her) is an eclectic artist born and educated in Winnipeg, Manitoba. After her thesis in Sculpture at University of Manitoba Fine Arts, where she made large welded structures, she discovered the challenge of working at the jewellers bench. She taught in a public school, a certificate course in Jewellery and Metalsmithing for 30 years. Her work now is primarily in sterling silver using lost wax casting, soldering, metalsmithing, forging, forming, stone setting, and gold leafing. She is influenced by medieval architecture, structures in nature, the beauty of the Manitoba skies, trees, beaches, organic found materials, and incorporating textures into all she creates.
