CraftED: Lost Wax Casting Bronze Pendants with Anastasia Pindera

CraftED: Lost Wax Casting Bronze Pendants with Anastasia Pindera

Workshop Description:

In this workshop, participants will learn the basics of lost wax casting including wax carving, casting, and metal finishing methods. These skills will be applied to the creation of a bronze pendant which will be attached to a chain to create a piece of jewellery.

This workshop takes place over two sessions. In the first session, participants will carve their pendant, which will then be taken to be cast in metal. In the second session, the focus will be on sanding and polishing the metal pendant, attaching a jump ring and chain.

About the Instructor:

Anastasia Pindera (she/her) is an interdisciplinary visual artist, who mainly creates conceptual jewellery, and large-scale wearable objects that evolve into installations incorporating photography. The body is central to her metalwork, which challenges social conventions to inspire conversation and empowerment. Pindera earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in 2018, specializing in Jewellery and Metalsmithing. Pindera has exhibited her work internationally, and received awards from the Canada Council for the Arts, Manitoba Arts Council, Winnipeg Arts Council, and Arts Nova Scotia. Her practice has also been supported through arts residencies in Mexico, Argentina, Colombia, and Canada. Pindera discovered a passion for teaching while leading drop-in visual arts programs in Winnipeg’s inner city – an experience that led her to pursue a Bachelor of Education at the University of Winnipeg.
