MCML Workshop: Tobacco Bag with Margaret Firlotte
Three-part workshop: March 7, 28 and April 18, 12pm-3pm
In this workshop, participants will learn to assemble and create their own medicine pouches using Laurence Barkwell’s design and instructions by Nancy Gouliquer. The workshop will be held over three sessions. Materials included in the workshop are: patterns, a mild range of bead colours, wool for the pouch, cotton, stabilizer, and wool for the braided cord.
In the first session, participants will begin assembling their pouch, including selecting a beadwork pattern, choosing bead colours, and preparing materials. In this session, participants can also bring their own patterns and beads if they want. Please reach out to Andrea / Margaret ahead of time if you would like to do this option, as it requires us to send you the dimensions of the pouch to ensure your pattern fits. The second session will focus on the assembly of the pouch, which requires foundational sewing techniques. The third and final session will be dedicated to finishing the medicine pouches and braiding the cord.
This workshop is intended for intermediate beadwork artists, as it will not include instruction on basic beading techniques. It is open to Indigenous participants only.
MCML Member Fee: $175 + $25 Kit Fee = $200
Non-MCML Member Fee: $190 + $25 Kit Fee = $215
